Savills joined "Cycling for Newborns" to raise fund for Newborns Vietnam

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - Newborns Vietnam, a UK charity working with local public health providers to reduce neonatal mortality Vietnam organized ‘Cycling for Newborns’ from 20 – 22 March 2014. This is a 500 kilometre, three-day, cycle ride from Thanh My to Dong Ha to Da Nang to raise funds for a very special nurse education programme.

As a long term supporter of the charity, Neil MacGregor - Managing Director of Savills Vietnam, was delighted to take part in this cycling adventure for the first time this year. Sharing his feelings after the event, Neil said: “Despite some moments of pain, I had a wonderful time during the three days of cycling. It was a huge personal challenge however I realized that I had finally made it as we descended the Hai Van Pass into Danang. Cycling for newborns was a great cause and I was so happy that Savills have continued to contribute to decreasing the deaths of newborns in Vietnam”. Besides, three colleagues from Savills Singapore joined with Neil on the cycle ride and together they raised over USD15,000 for Newborns Vietnam.

 

The cycling finished at 14h30 on 22 March 2014 at Da Nang Hospital for Women & Children where nurses are being trained by experts from Canterbury Christ Church University in Britain to develop specialist skills that improve their care of newborn infants and their mothers, and reduce the number of newborn babies that die.

 

Dr Le Thi Thanh Xuan, Vice Director of Da Nang Hospital for Women & Children said: “This training will support our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to fulfil to become a centre of regional excellence, and will help raise standards of neonatal care in central Vietnam”.

 

Until now, Newborns Vietnam is pleased to announce that donations to the 2014 ‘Cycling for Newborns’ challenge have surpassed US$100,000.
