Animal protection added into 7th biology textbook

(14:36:40 PM 10/12/2013)
(Tinmoitruong.vn) - To raise the awareness of students on wildlife conservation, the contents on Vietnam’s wild animals will be added into the textbook of 7th grade students.

The Javan rhinoceros was extinct in Vietnam. It is a big lesson for wildlife conservation in the country.

According to the Wildlife At Risk (WAR) organization, animal protection issues will be integrated into 10 classes of the biology subject of the 7th grade students, to help students see the beauty, diversity and value of the wildlife world in Vietnam.

At the same time the content will help students be aware of the threats and the actions that can be taken to protect animals. Since then they will have a sense of responsibility and willing to protect the wildlife.

The documents include specific guidance and 10 sample lesson plans to help teachers integrate wildlife protection content into each biological lesson. In addition to the content as usual lessons, each lesson has general information on animal groups for teacher’s reference. The documents were accompanied with a set of visual aids including 54 large-sized color photographs (21x29 cm), 10 video clips from 3-5 minutes with more than 600 photographs of nearly 400 rare species of Vietnam.

The documents and the teaching aid kit were developed based on the assessment of the demand and opinion of the entire biology teachers in Binh Thanh District, HCM City.

In the 2013-2014 school year, this program will be applied in the 7th grade biology subject in all schools in Binh Thanh District and a number of secondary schools in the district of Tan Phu and Binh Tan, HCM City.
