Viet Nam hosts conference on illegal wildlife trade

The conference was hosted by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in Viet Nam.

Rhino horn demand falls after campaign
(19:25:16 PM 21/10/2014)Vietnamese demand for rhinoceros horns decreased by 38 per cent within a year after a campaign was launched against the practice. The Viet Nam Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the Humane Society International launched the campaign in August 2013 to change the people's belief that rhino horns could treat diseases in Viet Nam.

Vietnam reduces consumption of rhino horns
(10:41:58 AM 22/10/2014)The representative body for the Government of Vietnam to implement the rights and obligations of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES Vietnam) said that after a year to implement the propaganda campaign to raise awareness for the people of Vietnam, the number of people wishing to buy and use rhino horns in Vietnam had decreased by 38% compared to the previous campaign.

APEC repelling wildlife trafficking activities
(11:02:10 AM 28/10/2014)From October 21 to October 23, in Hanoi, Vietnam Administration of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) in collaboration with the US CITES management agency (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) held a workshop under the APEC framework (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) on minimizing illegal wildlife consumption demand.

Stopping tourism activity of extracting bear gall in Ha Long
(11:14:19 AM 28/10/2014)Visiting Ha Long Bay, foreign tourists (mainly from Korea) often visit six large-scaled bear farms located along the highway since 2007. Tourists can witness the extracting bear gall and buy them as a gift to bring home. However, these activities has violated Vietnam regulations and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITEs).

(20:11:30 PM 07/10/2016)With illegal and unsustainable trade endangering wildlife across the world, governments at the CITES Conference united behind a series of tough decisions to provide greater protection to a host of threatened species and bolster efforts to tackle soaring levels of poaching and wildlife trafficking. Specifically, key decisions and announcements were made around species that are traded across the Greater Mekong Region, including ivory, rhino horn, pangolins and tigers.
