The operator has revealed the repair schedule of the cable, which had an unexpected cut on April 23.

It is expected that at 2pm on May 5, the repair ship will arrive at the broken point to start welding at 2pm on May 7. The first welding point will be finished at 6am on May 8 and by 3pm on May 9 the last welding point will be completed. By 7pm on May 10, the cable network will resume normal operations.

The Asia-American Gateway (AAG) submarine cable was cut again on the morning of April 23. The breakdown is located in SH1 segment, about 300km offshore Vung Tau, which is a turn from the international line via Hong Kong (China) to Ho Chi Minh City.

The incident will affect internet bandwidth from Vietnam to international destinations.

Viettel, FPT and VNPT have taken some measures to restrict effects on Internet users in Vietnam.

Earlier in 2015, the AAG submarine cable was cut on January 5 and it took two weeks to resolve the issue.

The AAG is a 20,000-kilometre long submarine communications cable system, connecting Southeast Asia with the US mainland, across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii.

With a total investment of approximately $560 million, AAG has a length of nearly 20,000 km, starting from Malaysia (TM) and ending in the US. (AT&T Telecom Company).

The segment to Vietnam is 314 km long and lands at Vung Tau.  There are four participants in the system, including FPT Telecom, VNPT, Viettel and SPT.

At the latest press conference of the government, the Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son said the Ministry had instructed communications groups to build more cable routes.

The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is building two more overland fiber optic lines to China while Viettel is building a submarine optical cable.
