(Tinmoitruong.vn) - On 04 March 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) jointly organises a workshop with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) in Hanoi to prepare the implementation of the Paris Agreement in Viet Nam.

The Paris Agreementwas approved at COP 21 in Paris in December 2015. It comprises 29 articles that will be applied to all Parties from 2020 onwards. The Paris Agreement resolves the fundamental differences in themitigation responsibilities of developed and developing countries. It is based on the principle that all countries should commit to continuously undertakingmitigation effortsofthe highest ambition in years to come.In terms of mitigation, Viet Nam’s commitment to reduce GHG emissions by 8% compared to the business-as-usual scenario will be considered by the international community and may be adjustedin 2018.

 

GHG emission reduction efforts and progress in terms of INDC implementation will be evaluated on afive-year basisfrom 2023 onwards. With regard toadaptation, the Paris Agreement statesthat it isaglobal challenge that has to be addressedat the local, national, regional and international level. Furthermore, adaptationhas to play a central role in any long-term climate change response. Therefore,the Paris Agreementencouragesthe development of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs)thatset outpriorities and identify gapsthat require support from the international community.

 In order to achievethe tasks assigned by the Prime Minister, the National Committee on Climate Change is organising a High-Level Forum on the implementation of the Paris Agreement in Viet Nam, tentatively in March or early April 2016. Today’s workshop, in preparation of the forum, aims to identify opportunities and challenges as well asimportant action pointsthat Viet Nam needs to addressby 2020 in order to successfully implement the Paris Agreement.


Based on the findings of the workshop, the Working Group for the High-Level Forum, which includesrepresentatives of line ministries, different sectors of the economy, development cooperation partners and senior experts, will convene during a2-daywriting retreatto draft a roadmap for the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - Airbus and the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have launched a long-term partnership to reduce the impact of aviation on the environment. The agreement was signed during the ICAO World Aviation Forum on Aviation Partnerships for Sustainable Development in Montreal Canada. This programme will cover a tailored offering of services and expertise.
