VNREDsat-1 contributes to monitoring natural resources, environment and natural disasters in ASEAN region Tin mới nhất

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - At the workshop “ASEAN earth observation satellite and wave receiving 3rd station” has been recently co-organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). The speeches of scientists from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia has affirmed: the space technology in general and the remote sensing satellites system in particular, have been playing an increasing important role in monitoring natural resources and environment and natural disasters for every single ASEAN countries and the whole region.

The successful launch of the remote sensing satellite, VNREDSat-1 on 7th May 2013 helped Vietnam to become the 5th country in ASEAN owing the earth observation satellite. The photos taken by the VNREDSat-1 have been popularly utilized and meet demands of the Ministries, Sectors, and Provinces, as well as open cooperation opportunities with the ASEAN countries and the world.

The contribution of the VNREDSat-1 in the international cooperation, aiming to predict, monitor and prevent natural disasters, has been recorded by representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The satellite photos sharing timely to countries affected by natural disasters is an initial success and open the perspective cooperation opportunities between VAST and UNESCAP, as well as with other international organizations in the natural disaster prevention and mitigation. In addition, it also contributes to the “Action plan 2015-2017 on the application of the space technology and the geographic information system for the natural disasters prediction, prevention, and mitigation as well as for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region”, chaired by UNESCAP.
