The giant barb.

The giant fish was more than 1.8 m in length and its body circumference was 1.7 m.

This fish was caught by Cambodian fishermen in the Mekong River on March 18. The fish was sold to a trader from An Giang province who then sold it to the restaurant in District 7, HCM City.

Recently, many giant barbs have been caught by fishermen of Vietnam and Cambodia, in the Mekong River.

On October 16 last year, a fisherman who lived in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City caught a giant barb of 128kg. On December 6, a fisherman in Vinh Long Province netted a barb weighing 130kg in the Co Chien River, a branch of the Mekong River. And on December 1 a fisherman in Dong Thap Province caught a giant weighing 110kg in the Hau River.

Giant barb is the biggest species of the carp family but they have no feeler. They usually live in large rivers and large lakes.

They are a migratory species and often move find food and reproduce.

The giant barbs are priced up to thousands of USD, so fishermen usually sell it to restaurants or traders, and do not release them back to the river
