(15:21:48 PM 26/05/2014)
(Tinmoitruong.vn) - Ho Chi Minh City customs officers announced the seizure of around three kilograms of pseudoephedrine on Thursday--a key ingredient for producing methamphetamine--from a gift consignment bound for Australia. HCMC customs officers found 2.77 kilograms of pseudoephedrine hidden cleverly in eight jars and bottles of massage cream, shampoo and conditioner

The consignment was sent by a person in Tan Binh District to a relative in Australia.

The consignee told HCMC Customs Department that the package contained hats, gloves and some cosmetics products.

But when the officers inspected the package, they found 2.77 kilograms of pseudoephedrine hidden cleverly in eight jars and bottles of skin massage cream, shampoo and conditioner.

The case is being investigated further.

The HCMC Customs Department said it has discovered more than 55 kilograms of narcotic ingredients and 4.22 kilograms of heroin disguised in food and cosmetics products being shipped out of the country over the last eight months.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of possessing/smuggling 100 grams of heroin or cocaine or 300 grams of other drugs face capital punishment.
