Ba Ria – Vung Tau fights malaria

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - The southern coastal province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau has undertaken a number of measures to address malaria-affected areas.

The locality has monitored highly vulnerable individuals from the central region and the Central Highlands. 


Many preventive measures have also been fostered across the province, such as monitoring insect development, especially anopheles mosquitoes, and keeping a close watch on affected areas and treatment processes. 


Malaria can be fatal if left untreated. 


According to health experts, those who have previously been infected come from affected areas remain vulnerable to the disease. 


The health sector recommends local people take measures to prevent the disease, such as killing mosquitoes and insects, using sleeping nets, and keeping their neighbourhood clean. 


They are also encouraged to have regular health check-ups and seek treatment immediately if experiencing any of the typical symptoms to prevent the situation from worsening and spreading widely. 


Nearly 60 communes in the province with hundreds of thousands of residents are vulnerable to malaria, 40 communes of which are facing a risk of relapse . 


In 2014, as many as 237 cases were recorded across the province, an annual decrease of more than 20 percent from 2013. 


As of 2014, Vietnam had reduced its malaria cases by 90 percent and malaria deaths by nearly 96 percent from 2000.


The health ministry said the country reported only six malaria fatalities and no outbreaks in 2014. Vietnam targets to completely eradicate the disease by 2030
