The event--held by the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City, the Canadian International School system, and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam—also aims to raise awareness of cancer victims in the community.

Donations from participants in the event will be used for the construction of a laboratory for molecular pathology.

Last year’s Terry Fox run drew more than 14,600 participants and raised VND1,700,000,000 (US$81,730) -- a new record high in participants and proceeds in the history of the run in the city.

Previously, the run was really a festival in Phu My Hung during which participants took their families to the area to run, walk, ride bicycles, walk their dogs, or skate on roller blades.

Now, the Terry Fox run is no longer just a Canadian tradition but a family event known around the world. Over US$600 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name.
