Strengthening management of detrimental exotic species

(10:37:47 AM 25/11/2014)
(Tinmoitruong.vn) - Vietnam is known as a country with its rich diversity of genetic resources, species composition and ecosystem but they are unsustainable to environmental impacts and changes. One of the causes of this situation is invasion of detrimental exotic species. According to the Department of Biodiversity

Conservation, there are total of 94 exotic species, including 42 flora species and 48 aquatic fauna. Alarmingly, some cases of importing a large number of exotic species into Vietnam without controlling, lead to the unexpected out break of population in nature and damaging dramatically the agricultural production and ecosystem.

At the workshop “Assessment of detrimental exotic species management status in Vietnam” held in November 18th in Hanoi, Mrs. Hoang Thi Thanh Nhan – Deputy Director of Department of Biodiversity Conservation said that the mentioned situation is caused by the loose supervision and management. Therefore, it is needed to documentation and completion of the relevant laws and regulations in order to enhance management, prevent and control the detrimental exotic species entering Vietnam.
