The development towards the sea is expected to bring new advantages for the city such as expanding the space of urban development, creating new space for the city and building new industrial parks and residential areas. The development will create a new navigation channel allowing larger ships moving into the city. That will solve the problems of port congestion in Saigon seaport at present.
To achieve the objective of moving towards the sea, over the past few years, Ho Chi Minh City has conducted a planning and investment in Hiep Phuoc Port Urban Area (Nha Be) in an area of 4,000 hectares.
To face with the flooding, especially climate change, the City has built an action plan to adapt to climate change, signed an agreement with the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands so as to study plans driving the city towards the sea and climate change adaptation. The city also recommended and implemented measures to adapt to climate change and ensure sustainable development; proactive and take advantage of the positive effects of climate change; enhance the State management capacity and strengthen links between the relevant agencies; raise public awareness about climate change.
