Posters at an exhibition on Vietnamese women’s courage and important roles held at Quai Branly Museum in Paris from June 24 to September 28, 2014 (Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism)

Forty posters that honor the courage and roles of Vietnamese women during the latter half of the 20th century are on display at an exhibition in France, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

The exhibition, which lasts from June 24 to September 28 at Quai Branly Museum in Paris, features the 40 posters glorifying the courage of Vietnamese women and their important roles during the war in Vietnam in the 1954-1980 period.

The posters by well-known Vietnamese painters Nguyen Do Cung, To Ngoc Van and Luong Xuan Nhi show respect for the contributions by Vietnamese women to the success of Vietnam’s revolution in the past and honor their sacrifice for their families and children.

During wartime, Vietnamese women supported their sons and husbands by assuming such roles as village patrol guards, intelligence agents, propagandists, and military recruiters in addition to taking care of their family.

In the mid-1960s, the Women's Union which was founded in 1930 encouraged women to fulfill three main responsibilities including encouraging their male relatives to fight in the war, taking on all household burdens, and working the industrial and agricultural fields.

The Paris event is part of the activities held to celebrate the Vietnam Year in France 2014. It is expected to promote Vietnamese cultural aspects and the indomitable spirit of Vietnamese people in general and women in particular to international friends.
