Japan gives priority to support environmental protection in Vietnam

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - In the afternoon of 15/10, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang met Mr. Masami Fuwa, Director General of the Global Environment Department at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The two parties discussed experiences and cooperation in implementing environmental projects in Vietnam.

Minister Nguyen Minh Quang said that the Government of Vietnam was very interested in environmental issues. Vietnam had been perfecting the legal framework enacting numerous programs and policies related to the environment. However, the biggest difficulty was the limitations of capital, technology and human resources.

Minister Nguyen Minh Quang would like to thank for the invaluable cooperation of Japan to Vietnam. In the coming time, Vietnam hoped to continue to receive the support and cooperation of JICA, especially in some specific programs such as water pollution treatment in residential areas and industrial zones; handling household waste by smart and effective waste incinerators; responding to climate change associated with projects of forest conservation and development; conserving biodiversity, training human resource...

"Vietnam requests JICA for stable funding to support environmental improvement projects in Vietnam, and call on other international sources of capital for Vietnam in the field of environment", the Minister stressed.

At the meeting, Mr. Masami Fuwa, in charge of management of the global environment at JICA, appreciated the efforts and achievements that Vietnam had achieved in the field of the environment for past time. He added that although JICA acted in many areas related to various ministries, but for next time, it devoted special attention and great support for the environmental sector.
