Vietnam, Denmark foster energy conservation links

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - Vietnam and Denmark have reached a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy conservation and renewable energy industries, spanning five priority fields across 10 cooperative forms.

Signed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Danish Ministry of Energy, Building and Climate in Hanoi on June 18, the MoU highlighted the agenda for developing legal frameworks on the effective and economical use of energy in Vietnam, especially at small and medium-size enterprises.

 

Other priorities are given to developing new projects regarding the realisation of the National Target Programme on Energy Conservation and Efficient Use in Vietnam and the Green Growth strategy, among others.

 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Cao Quoc Hung said the MoU will help boost cooperation between the two ministries in the field.

 

While echoing the Vietnamese official on the significance of the document, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen also highlighted the future energy demand in Vietnam, especially in industry area.

 

He suggested taking sustainable approaches to increasing the use of renewable and clean energies towards shaping a green economy.

 

Vietnam and Denmark established their strategic partnership in 2011 surrounding climate change, environment, energy and green growth.

 

The countries have initiated long-term dialogues on low carbon emission and funded the National Target Programme on Energy Conservation and Efficient Use in Vietnam , aiming to reduce energy consumption in Vietnam by 5-8 percent.

The agreement was signed during the ICAO World Aviation Forum on Aviation Partnerships for Sustainable Development in Montreal Canada. This programme will cover a tailored offering of services and expertise.
