With the theme "Culture and Risk," the 2014 World Disasters Report focuses to explore the impact of culture to the reduction of disaster risk and the adaptation to climate change. According to the report, Asia is the continent most affected by the disasters, with 41% of disasters occurred here. In the recent 20 years, the consequences of disasters are very serious: 4.4 billion people affected, 1.3 million people died, more than 1.5 trillion Euros in economic damage. By 2030, annual losses caused by disasters in the world are estimated at 328 billion Euros (421 billion Dollars), increasing by 300% in less than two decades.
Chairperson of the Vietnam Red Cross Nguyen Hai Duong said that as one of the countries most affected by natural disasters in the world, Vietnam faced a series of disaster risks becoming more and more serious. An estimated 70% of the population would face disasters increasing due to the impact of climate change. Vietnamese government has been taking measures to cope with disaster risks through introducing new legislation, strengthening the capacity of disaster prevention and response. Vietnam has also established a national program "Community-based disaster risk management" in 6000 communes (about 50% of communes in the country) by 2020...

Developing policies and legislation on recovery and processing of waste products in Vietnam
(Tinmoitruong.vn) - Article 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 2014 regulated the recovery, processing of waste products to comply with the decision of the Prime Minister. To ensure synchronism and consistency of the legal system, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is reviewing and revising the guiding documents to implement this content.
