HCM City taxis now have invoice printers

(15:36:29 PM 07/07/2014)
( - All taxis in HCM City will eventually have printers that will issue receipts to passengers, according to city authorities.

The HCM City Standard and Quality Measurement Bureau has installed printers in taxis of a number of taxi firms.

After one month, these companies will evaluate the effectiveness of the device.

Some taxi companies have also installed a journey surveillance device to better monitor drivers.

Mr. Duong Tien Thu, director of the 27-7 transport firm, says that thanks to the receipt printer, passengers are able to monitor their journey, the distance, the code of the car and the driver.

"At the end of the trip, if passengers forget their belongings in the car, they can easily take back their assets by calling to the switchboard, using the information on the bill,” Thu said.

To tighten management of taxi operations, the Ministry of Transport has drafted a decree on taxi business conditions, under which all cabs must have invoice printers from July 1, 2016.

However, the Vietnam Auto Transport Association Chairman, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, said that the Ministry should only encourage transport firms to install the device on their taxis because this would be an additional financial burden.

Recently, many passengers have complained of fraud charges. However, without the bill, they did not have evidence to claim a refund.

In many other cases, passengers left their belongings in the taxi but could not remember the number plate of the taxi.
