Vietnam – EU: Together towards COP 21

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - The Conference of the Parties (COP21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held in Paris from 31 Nov to 11 Dec, 2015.

In preparation for COP21, Vietnam Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Tran Hong Ha and the Head of Delegation of the European Commission in Vietnam, Mr. Franz Jessen have recently had a meeting to present two countries’ stronger agreement on international negotiation on climate change, and in order to achieve a new global legal framework with its dramatic binding capacity in COP21.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Franz Jessen has affirmed that the EU respects efforts to scope with the global climate change. Thanks to this, EU shall pronounce its contribution before COP21 in the 1st quarter of 2015 as well as commit to assist countries vulnerable to climate change.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha said that, towards COP21, Vietnam already completed the 2nd National Communication to the UNFCCC. At the present, Vietnam has been preparing the Biennial Update Reports (BURs) updated every two years. The first version shall be expected to submit the Secretariat of the UNFCCC in Dec 2014 in Lima, Peru. At the same time, Vietnam has been developing the National self-determination index (INDCs) and it is expected to complete in June 2015. These are meaningful efforts of Vietnam to contribute to the negotiation progress on climate change.

Mr. Tran Hong Ha hopes that a new globally legal framework binding will be formed in COP21.

(Tinmoitruong.vn) - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has introduced the lattest national greenhouse gas inventory report (GHG). Accordingly, the total GHG emission and absorption of the whole country is 246.8 million tonnes of CO2. Of those, the energy sector is the area with the highest GHG emissions accounting for 53.1% and the agriculture sector accounts for 33.2% of the total.
